Forward in Faith UK
2008 National Assembly Resolutions

Resolution 2008/01

This Assembly re-affirms its commitment to the Mission Statement of Forward in Faith. And so: We affirm the Faith of the Church as revealed in Scripture and Tradition. We proclaim our Faith through the Creeds, the Sacraments and the apostolic ministry of bishops and priests of the Universal Church. We seek a guaranteed ecclesial structure in which we can pass the Faith on to our children and grandchildren. We have a vision for unity and truth and we are going Forward in Faith.

Resolution 2008/02

This Assembly endorses the view of the fourteen bishops who were signatories of the letter of 15 August 2008 that a code of practice in any form cannot deliver proper ecclesial provision. The Assembly believes that it is necessary that the House of Bishops recognises that such ecclesial provision would enable the Church of England both to honour the wish of the majority for women to be admitted to the episcopate and also create a space in which the theological convictions of others are respected in fact as well as in words, in order that all would have the opportunity to flourish in as high a degree of fellowship as possible while the 'open process of reception' continues.

Resolution 2008/03

This Assembly affirms its determination to remain faithful to the ARCIC vision of full visible unity which has been an Anglican commitment for forty years and confirms that is the context in which the members of this Assembly have consistently understood their Anglican ecclesiology.

Resolution 2008/04

This Assembly salutes the courage of those seminarians and recently ordained deacons and priests and their families who attended the recent sessions of the General Synod in order to represent the interests of the members of Forward in Faith.

Resolution 2008/05

This Assembly thanks the members of the Catholic Group in General Synod for their continuing witness in that body to Catholic truth and order, in the face of intolerance on the part of many of its members. The Assembly requests the Council of Forward in Faith to do all in its power to continue to support the Group in its courageous defence of the Gospel.

Resolution 2008/07

This Assembly:

  1. notes with thanksgiving the fact that the Bill to allow women to be ordained as Bishops in the Church in Wales failed to obtain the necessary majorities;

  2. accepts that the decision of the Bench of Bishops that the provisions introduced by the then Bishop of Monmouth, Dr Rowan Williams, for a Provincial Assistant Bishop will not be continued makes this a somewhat empty victory;

  3. re-affirms the promises of resolution 2007/05 that 'Forward in Faith will provide all that is needed in continued prayer, legal advice, practical assistance and financial support' as the faithful in Wales seek the way ahead.
