Our Lady of the Snows, IL

The 2007 Assembly of Forward in Faith North America elected to its Council:

Vice-President:   The Revd Canon Warren Tanghe

Secretary:   The Revd Michael Brooks (St. Peter’s Canton IL)

Episcopal Member:   The Right Revd Richard Boyce, Diocese of the West—Anglican Province of America,

Priest Member:   The Revd Keith Acker, Alpine Anglican Church of the Blessed Trinity—Anglican Province of America,

Lay Member:   Mr. John Armstrong (St. Paul’s Keeseville NY—Anglican Communion Network/TEC).

Council also appointed to Priest Member the Revd James Guill (St. Andrew’s, Nashville TN—Companion Parish of the Diocese of Quincy/Tennessee TEC).

Resolutions passed at the Assembly (in chronological order):

1.      Approval of the Articles of the Common Cause Partnership, a federation of jurisdictions providing a framework for the emerging Anglican Province for North America. (The text of the Articles & Theological Statement of the Common Cause Partnership can be found here.)

2.      An affirmation of the Theological Statement of the Common Cause Partnership.

3.      In thanks for the wives of FiFNA bishops:

Whereas we recognize that each of us is engaged in the Christian life and the promotion and defense of the Christian faith is strengthened for ministry by the prayers and support of others, and Whereas the first place of such support is in our own homes and families, Be it resolved that this 2007 Assembly of FIFNA offer our deepest gratitude and assurance of continual prayer to the wives of our bishops, and Be it further resolved that this Assembly directs our Council to communicate this personally in writing to each of our bishop’s wives.

  1. In recognition of the faithful work of FiFNA members:

Whereas many faithful bishops, priests and lay persons who have contributed greatly to the life and work of FIFNA are not with us at this gathering, Be it resolved that this 2007 Assembly of FIFNA extend our gratitude and our greetings to all such persons, including especially those who have held positions of leadership:  The Rt Rev. Donald Davies, Clarence Pope, David Moyer, and John David Schofield; The Rev Frs. Brian Koehler, Burt Ward, Ralph Walker, Sam Edwards, Gene Geromel, Jonothan Ostman, and John Heidt, and lay persons Peter Moriarty, David Mills, Beth Conn, Alicia Geromel, Rita Moyer, David Rawson, Dorothy Spaulding, Jack Lynn, Irene Bakos, the late Bruce Flood, and the late Theodora Mann

  1. A reaffirmation of the 2002 request that a bishop be consecrated for the constituency of FiFNA:

Whereas, the 2002 FIFNA Assembly passed two resolutions:

1.                  Called upon supportive Primates to nominate, elect, and consecrate (according to the canons of their province) one or more persons to serve as bishop(s) for our constituency, and

2.                  Recommended two priests we considered worthy of consideration for this ministry, the Reverend William Ilgenfritz and the Reverend David Moyer,

Be it resolved that this 2007 FIFNA Assembly reaffirm the recommendation of the Reverend William Ilgenfritz to orthodox Primates for consideration for consecration as bishop for our constituency.

  1. On the failure to follow the request of the Primates for a Pastoral Council:

Be it resolved, that Forward in Faith North America decry the failure and refusal of the House of Bishops and the Executive Council of The Episcopal Church to consider favorably the request of the Primates for a Pastoral Council to provide ministry for those members of this Church alienated by recent actions of The Episcopal Church, and indeed to hide behind the false claim that polity prevents such consideration. This resolution to be sent to the Archbishop of Canterbury.

  1. On persecution of Christian brothers and sisters:

Be it resolved that this body is aware and takes notice of the growing influence of Militant Fundamentalist Islam in God’s world. That this body witnesses with concern increased persecution of our Christian brothers and sisters in various parts of the world at the hands of certain Muslim governments and individuals of the Islamic faith. That while we pray for a “reformation of the heart” by those who persecute Christians in the name of Islam, we at the same time condemn their actions. That we call upon Christians everywhere to find right and Godly ways to aide our persecuted brothers and sisters and resist imposed tyranny and persecution wherever it occurs.
