The Governing Body of the Church in Wales, meeting in Lampeter, has this evening voted down by just three votes the Bill to permit women to be ordained as bishops in the Church in Wales.  Voting figures so far available indicate that the laity voted in favour by 52 : 19, and that the clergy voted in favour 27 : 18, thus failing to achieve the necessary majority in the latter house.

Comment from Credo Cymru and from Forward in Faith will follow.
